about

It is the eve of the 20’s and Victoria’s Iceberg Ferg returns with his fifth album, a tribute to true love and hard proof that romance and determination can trump bitterness and sarcasm, even as we enter the new depression era.

“Let it Grow” is a wild and beautiful coming together of pre-war country blues, contemporary west coast rain music and traditional bluegrass harmonies. His explorative guitar instrumentation, complex fingerpicking and heartwarming vocals simultaneously freeze you in a forgotten era, while at the same time hypnotically thawing your auditory pleasure senses.

Recorded on a sweltering day in New York City, his high and lonesome vocals are accompanied on this record by his true love Jacqueline. Obsessive music fans take note, a careful review of his lyrical content will reveal the use of the word “love” exactly 33 1/3 times! His cover’s of traditional Carter Family song’s and Lulu Jackson’s Careless Love will take you homeward-bound and bake your inner-nostalgia into a sweet sweet sweet country pie!

His far-in finger-tipped syncopation will plunge you into an unknown universe, whizzing away in song whenever you choose to tune in. Ferg has one of those voices that will stop you in your tracks. A falsetto reminiscent of Alan Wilson, with a bone-chilling vibration that hits you hard like Skip James. It is no wonder his cover of Elizabeth Cotten’s I’m Going Away (from 2016’s In the Valley of the Purple Prince LP) captivated his audiences on his short tour with Boise rocker’s Built to Spill!

With an understated and mind-blowing fingerstyle, Ferg evokes Bert Jansch, John Renbourn or Davey Graham in his guitar maturity while his vocal style brings to mind that of Mississippi John Hurt (or even that of Karen Dalton). His genuine love of guitar music quickly warms a room and expands ones heart. All of these elements come together to create a guitarist and composer that awes, excites and inspires all that have been lucky enough to discover him. The icing on the cake for “Let is Grow” is the albums final track, Jacqueline’s deep cut Heart on Ice, where her delicate strumming and beautiful voice finally responds to Ferg’s relentless and unwavering affection. Like the first time we heard Cynthia Dall on a Bill Callahan record, or Julie Doiron break though the Eric’s Trip’s haze, we knew we were in love!

Together Ferg and Jacqueline draw you into their best life, so deck your brow with roses and enjoy your own best life!

Shine up your hair and LET IT GROW!
